Plant-Based Leather
EUMIS skin
With both a unique texture,
flexibility and durability that is comparable
to leather and paper,
and which highlights
the characteristics of plants,
EUMIS materials are primarily sourced
from discarded non-marketable crops,
ensuring a predominantly natural composition that is safe enough to put in your mouth.
By maximizing the blessings of nature, a novel material that has never been seen
before has emerged.
We perceive the individuality of plants through their fragrance, color, and texture,
and strive to create materials that harness these characteristics as much as possible.
THE LIFE CYCLE OF"EUMIS skin"

ABOUT THE
MATERIALS

KAKISHIBU
"Kakishibu" is a product made by extracting the juice from unripe persimmons, harvested while still green, and then fermenting and aging the resulting liquid. In Japan, from ancient times, persimmon tannins have been widely incorporated into daily life as paints, dyes, or in folk medicine.
Persimmon tannin, known as "kakitannin", possesses unique properties that can enhance the strength and water resistance of leather.
The kakishibu we use is made from domestically grown astringent persimmons, specifically sourcing unutilized resources such as fruit thinned from trees, purchased from persimmon producers across the country, and repurposed as kakishibu. By purchasing persimmons that would otherwise be abandoned, we aim to revitalize the local community and prevent the deterioration of agricultural land.

Fibnano
Fibnano is a cellulose nanofiber produced by the fermentation of inulin-derived syrup by acetic acid bacteria.
The fibers created through acetic acid bacteria fermentation are natural yet uniform and finely textured, providing strength to the leather.
Moreover, the raw material sugar beet is one of the essential crops in the crop rotation system of Hokkaido agriculture and so by utilizing sugar derived from sugar beets for purposes beyond food production, this process contributes to maintaining the crop rotation system and supports the primary industry in Hokkaido.
In Japan, Kusano Sakko Inc, located in Hokkaido, is the exclusive manufacturer of this product.
A variety of other plant-based ingredients are also added, including discarded vegetables and fruits. The material can be presented in a diverse range of colors, textures, and thicknesses, offering a wide range of variations.
Our Founder
Suemi Tsumenaga
A tailor addressing environmental issues

The founder, who began making clothes at a young age, embarked on journeys to visit indigenous communities, discovering the essence of fashion rooted in the cycle of nature with minimal waste. Through these experiences, she has cultivated a career as a bespoke tailor, focusing on craftsmanship rather than mass production. Prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, she took the opportunity to learn more about environmental issues and the treatment of farmed animals.
Inspired to foster a co-existence between the natural cycle and craftsmanship, she created EUMIS, a plant-based leather. Through EUMIS, it is possible to rediscover the "pure affection for nature and living beings" that everyone inherently possesses. Rather than rejecting conventional practices, EUMIS exists as a choice for living more authentically in the enjoyment of fashion in evolving times and offers a path to express oneself.
